Our Skaters' Definition of Sportsmanship

The following is a sportsmanship agreement developed by Iceworld skaters. The following are applicable to skaters, coaches, and parents.

Good Sportsmanship means…

  • Supporting other competitors

  • Being positive towards others

  • Congratulating other skaters on their effort and their placings (eg. applauding, saying “well done!”, shaking hands)

  • Being happy with our best

  • Learning to deal with our own emotions - being gracious when we perform well, and staying calm when we perform poorly

  • Working well with other skaters at training

  • Thanking our parents and coaches

  Bad Sportsmanship means…

  • Saying mean things to other competitors

  • Trying to intimidate competitors

  • Yelling or swearing at anyone

  • Being inconsiderate or rude to other people

  • Coaches or parents yelling at skaters or their competitors

  • Parents putting too much pressure on skaters

  • Breaking the rules of a competition
